Norton to Join Metro and NPS at Lunchtime Music on the Mall Pre-Launch on Tuesday
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will be on the National Mall Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at noon for the pre-launch of "Lunchtime Music on the Mall." Norton will introduce violinist and D.C. resident Clarice Labbe, who will perform near the Smithsonian Metro stop from noon. to 2:00 p.m.
"I am gratified to join with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the National Park Service (NPS) for the pre-launch of Lunchtime Music on the Mall to help ensure that the Mall becomes more inviting during lunchtime, when many need a breather and would welcome bringing their lunch to the Mall," Norton Said. "Beginning with Tuesday's pre-launch, the Mall will come alive with music during the lunchtime hours, when not only tourists are there, but especially the residents of the city and the region who work in nearby offices."
Music on the Mall, produced by Michael McBride, manager of WMATA's Metro Art in Transit program, will bring local and regional musicians to the Mall during lunchtime. The pre-launch performances are set for Tuesdays from noon to 2:00 p.m. in June, and with the official launch in July, artists will perform Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 2:00 p.m.
Representatives from the WMATA and NPS, in conjunction with Norton, will formally launch Lunchtime Music on the Mall in July. Norton said that WMATA and NPS have been central to the coming Music to the Mall, and that local and regional performers as well as public sector and private sector employees will be gratified for performances to enjoy during lunchtime
