Norton to Kick Off Free Small Business Fair with Press Conference Naming 2016 D.C. Small Business of the Year, Tomorrow
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will open this year’s Small Business Fair at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon Place NW, 2nd Floor, Room 202A) with a press conference, where she will announce the winner of the 2016 District of Columbia Small Business of the Year tomorrow, Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Following remarks by the Small Business of the Year winner, the Small Business Fair will run all day from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The Small Business Fair, which is free of charge and for D.C. residents and businesses only, helps residents start, develop and grow small businesses here in the nation’s capital. The Small Business of the Year is a D.C. business that has succeeded and acts as a model to inspire other residents who operate businesses under similar conditions in the District. Presenters at the fair include representatives from leading businesses from across the District, as well as federal and District agencies, such as the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, and the D.C. Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking. Workshops will be offered on a range of issues, including on social media and branding, financing a small business, writing a business plan, tips on insuring a business, and procuring a government contract. Business experts will also be on hand to offer one-on-one counseling on securing a loan, legal issues, accounting, and marketing strategies.
“Our Small Business Fair is a one-stop shop for D.C. small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs looking to start a business in the District of Columbia,” Norton said. “Small businesses are fueling the District’s economic growth and we are helping residents fulfill their goal of starting their own business.”
A networking lounge will be open for all participants throughout the fair. HIV testing will be available.
