Norton to Lead a ‘Speak Up' for Federal Employees During Hour Special Order Today
March 10, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will lead a Democratic 60-minute special order on the House floor this evening, Thursday, March 10, after votes to support America's federal and other public employees. Following the two-year salary freeze for federal employees, bills to reduce federal employee pay and benefits have been repeatedly introduced in the House and in the Senate.
"With the nation grappling with a record budget deficit, all programs are subject to possible cuts, but Republicans have made federal employees their number one target, showing little regard for the indispensable services federal workers perform," said Norton.
Norton will offer some little known facts about the federal workforce this evening. Other regional Members are expected to speak on the floor as well.
