Norton To Make Another Appearance on The Colbert Report, Wednesday

WASHINGTON, DC – As Stephen Colbert winds down The Colbert Report over the next few months, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will make another appearance on The Colbert Report tonight,Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Norton, a frequent guest of the show and the person whom host Stephen Colbert refers to as his "nemesis," will be discussing the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer, which Norton helped to organize as a student member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, whose job discrimination provision Norton enforced less than 15 years later as chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

"I have no idea what to expect this time from Colbert," Norton said. "In the past Colbert has taken fiendish joy in ridiculing me because I can't vote on the House floor. Truth be told, the man was born in D.C., but that didn't stop him. Unwittingly, though, Colbert has done more than anyone to remind the country that the residents of the nation's capital, who pay full federal taxes, have no voting members in Congress, and are also denied full self-government. All I have been able to do as he uses me as a foil is to try not to take it lying down."
