Norton to March in Annual July Fourth Parade, Remind the Nation that Taxation Without Representation Still Exists in D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will march this year in the annual Palisades Fourth of July Parade alongside local Girl Scouts on Thursday, July 4th. The parade, organized by the Palisades Citizens Association, kicks off at 11:00 a.m. and proceeds along MacArthur Boulevard NW from the firehouse on Whitehaven Parkway NW to the Palisades Recreation Center.
"As our oldest hometown Fourth of July parade, I could not miss the chance to walk in the Palisades Parade, which attracts residents from across the District," Norton said. "More than any other jurisdiction, D.C. residents should march on July 4th to remind our country that the war to end taxation without representation is not finished. We will not be truly equal with the states until the District achieves statehood, which includes equal representation and full self-government. As we approach the July 24th hearing on D.C. statehood, this Fourth of July has special meaning for the District."
