Norton to March with Gertrude Stein Democratic Club in Capital Pride Parade, Saturday

June 7, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will march in the 38th annual Capital Pride Parade with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, tomorrow, Saturday, June 8, 2103, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at 22nd and P Streets NW. The parade, which travels one and a half miles, from near Dupont Circle to Logan Circle, is expected to draw over 100,000 spectators.

"Marching in the Pride Parade has always been fun, but this year I am especially excited to march with so many of my friends in the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club," said Norton. "This year we'll be marching at a time of rapidly expanding LGBT rights."

Norton, a strong advocate for LGBT rights, officiated a same-sex wedding at the foot of the Capitol, last Friday. Two weeks ago, to kick off Memorial Day weekend, she delivered remarks at the annual DC Black Pride Festival to LGBT people from around the country and the world. In March, she spoke at a rally at the Supreme Court promenade in defense of marriage equality.
