Norton to March with GLOV in Capital Pride Parade, Saturday

June 12, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will march in the 40th annual Capital Pride Parade with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, as she has every year since being elected to Congress, tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, 2015, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at 22nd and P Streets NW. The parade, which travels 1.5 miles from Dupont Circle to Logan Circle, is expected to draw over 100,000 spectators. This year, Norton will march with members of Gays and Lesbians Opposing Violence, which works to reduce violence against LGBT individuals in the District of Columbia.

"It's only a mile and a half, but I want to be on the front line of the Pride Parade every step of the way with our LGBT community on Saturday," Norton said. "Today is the 48th anniversary of Loving v. Virginia, when the U.S. Supreme Court declared denial of the right to marry on the basis of race unconstitutional. May the U.S. Supreme Court join our pride in this year's march by bringing equal rights in the same-sex marriage decision due at the end of the month."

Earlier this year, Norton successfully prevented Congress from overturning a District of Columbia law protecting LGBT students from discrimination by educational institutions.
