Norton to Meet with NPS Officials on Permanent Fix to the Washington Monument Elevator

June 18, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that she will meet tomorrow with National Park Service (NPS) Superintendent Karen Cucurullo and other NPS officials to discuss how to improve the long-term condition of the Washington Monument's elevator, which was out of operation for nearly a week for the second straight year as the tourist season began.

"The Washington Monument's elevator is perhaps the most important elevator in the District of Columbia, serving over 2,400 visitors every day," Norton said. "Its long-term functionality is critical to our city's economy and to the many tourists who count the Monument as central to their visit to the nation's capital. I look forward to working with NPS in finding a solution to ensure uninterrupted service."
