Norton to Officiate Same-Sex Wedding on National Mall Friday

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will officiate a wedding between Dr. Stephen Johnson and Dennis Kovanda, who have been together as a gay couple for 28 years, tomorrow, Friday, May 30, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial on 1st St. NW, between Pennsylvania Ave. NW and Maryland Ave. SW. Both men are currently federal employees, Johnson at the Department of Defense, Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office, and Kovanda at the National Institutes of Health.

"I will be pleased and honored to assist Stephen and Danis with their vows at one of my favorites places on the Mall," said Norton. "Their wedding makes me especially proud to represent a city that recognizes and respects the right of all loving couples to marry."
