Norton to Rally with D.C. Students and Leaders Ahead of ‘March for Our Lives,’ Saturday
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at the "Rally for DC Lives" with District of Columbia students and other local leaders on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., at Folger Park (3rd St. and D St. SE), ahead of the national "March for Our Lives." Norton will discuss her ongoing successful efforts to defeat a bill repeatedly introduced by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) to eliminate most of D.C.'s gun safety laws, including the city's bans on guns in schools, assault rifles, and high-capacity magazines. The NRA rewarded Rubio for introducing his D.C. gun bill by raising his rating from B-plus to A.
"This year's student-led efforts to end gun violence have created a brand new gun control movement in our country and has given me renewed energy to keep fighting to protect D.C.'s local gun safety laws," Norton said. "D.C. is honored to welcome the hundreds of thousands of marchers expected this weekend as we seek to make D.C. an example of sensible gun safety and resistance to gun extremism."
