Norton to Read to First Graders, Celebrate Black History Month, Thursday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will read to first graders at Eagle Academy Public Charter School this Thursday, February 13th, at 10:00 a.m.  Students at Eagle Academy are celebrating Black History Month and learning about District of Columbia heroes in civil rights.  Norton will read from a book about Frederick Douglass, a champion for full self-government and equal voting rights for the District, whose home is a historic site in Southeast D.C. that Norton will encourage the youngsters to visit.  Norton will also take questions from the children on her own work in the Civil Rights Movement and in Congress today.
