Norton to Receive Award from Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will receive the Wiley A. Branton Award from the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs on Wednesday, June 26th, at 12:30 p.m., in recognition of her work for civil rights and her dedication to the District of Columbia. The Branton Award is given in honor of Dean Wiley Branton's life-long commitment to fighting segregation in Arkansas, leading federal anti-poverty agencies, and training young advocates at the Howard University School of Law. The Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban affairs uses litigation to fight discrimination, dismantle systematic racial inequality, and protect those who are most vulnerable.

"It is a special honor to receive the Wiley A. Branton Award from the Washington Lawyers' Committee," Norton said. "I appreciate being recognized for my work in civil rights, especially from an organization that has done an extraordinary job protecting the rights of minority and urban communities for over 50 years."
