Norton to Receive Briefing from Capitol Police Chief on Preparations for Trucker Convoy and State of the Union Address, Tomorrow

February 22, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will receive a briefing tomorrow afternoon from United States Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger on security preparations for the trucker convoy and the State of the Union address, including the possible reinstallation of temporary fencing around the Capitol. Norton requested the briefing.

"While temporary fencing due to specific and credible threats is a common-sense precaution, I'd like to ensure, even before it is erected, that there are no plans to make the fence permanent," Norton said. "I requested a meeting with Chief Manger to discuss the fencing and other security precautions Capitol Police are taking to keep the Capitol – and D.C. residents – safe from threats related to the trucker convoy and next week's State of the Union address."

Norton introduced the No Fencing at the United States Capitol Complex Act, which would prohibit the installation of permanent fencing on the grounds of the United States Capitol complex, in February 2021.
