Norton to Speak At 40th Anniversary Celebration for Levine Music, Today
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will give opening remarks at a 40th anniversary celebration for Levine Music today,Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the Town Hall Education Arts & Recreation Campus—THEARC (1901 Mississippi Ave. SE).
“This is an unusual opportunity for residents to attend an event that promises to deliver fun while being informative,” Norton said. “Residents will learn about the fascinating history of preserving oral traditions through song, while engaging in a community sing that celebrates Levine Music’s 40-year contribution of music and music education in the District.”
Levine Music celebrate forty years in operation tomorrow with Community Sings, an event that invites people of varied ages and singing ability to sing together in a choir led by Levine artist-in-residence, Dr. Ysaye Maria Barnwell (formerly of Sweet Honey in the Rock). Norton, a proponent of connecting District of Columbia residents with the arts and a partner of the upcoming summer Music on the Mall series, praised Levine Music for their long history of using music to promote unity and learning through song.
