April 29, 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will give the opening remarks at a ceremony honoring Joseph Benjamin Noel, a U.S. Navy sailor and Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, who died at St. Elizabeths Hospital in 1882 and was buried under a headstone that misspelled his name and failed to acknowledge his bravery, today, Friday, April 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Elizabeths Hospital Cemetery (East Campus, Entrance on Bruce PL. SE).
“It is a special privilege to properly honor Joseph Benjamin Noil, a hero who fought bravely for his nation and saved the life of his fellow sailor,” Norton said. “Joseph Benjamin Noil deserves this final recognition.”
