Norton to Speak at ‘DC Hires Vets’ Job Fair, Tomorrow

April 3, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at the second annual "DC Hires Vets" job fair tomorrow, Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. at the DC Armory (2001 E Capitol St. SE). The event runs from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and is open to all veterans and their spouses and is being hosted by the District of Columbia Department of Human Resources in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs and the D.C. National Guard.

"I am grateful to the city for hosting this important event to connect veterans to job opportunities across the region," Norton said. "We in this city must do all we can for D.C. veterans, who continue serve their country without a vote in Congress. The least we can do for them is to ensure they have access to jobs that make maximum use of their training and skills. Unemployment has been going down since the Obama administration. There is no reason that veterans who desire and are able to work should be unemployed."

Norton's own 2018 Job Fair will be held on August 1, 2018, at the Washington Convention Center, but she said the city's job fair aimed particularly at veterans is much deserved.

Each year, Norton secures funding ($435,000 for fiscal year 2018) for the Major General David F. Wherley, Jr. District of Columbia National Guard Retention and College Access Program, which provides grants for higher education to members of the D.C. National Guard.
