Norton to Speak at D.C. Statehood Constitutional Convention Kick-Off, Tonight
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer remarks at the first night of the three-day DC Statehood Constitutional Convention tonight, Monday, June 13, 2016, at 6:30 p.m., at 2235 Shannon Place, SE, Room 2032.
“The statehood constitutional convention offers a rare opportunity to energize our residents and the American people as we strive to raise the profile of our fight for full and equal rights for District residents,” Norton said. “Many Americans still do not know that statehood is the only way for D.C. residents to achieve equal rights with their fellow citizens. If they did, most would not condone leaving nearly 700,000 of their fellow citizens without their fundamental democratic rights of being represented in Congress by voting Members in both the House and Senate and subject to autocratic interference by Congress in their local affairs.”
