Norton to Speak at George Didden Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, Saturday on Capitol Hill
WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that Norton will speak at the George Didden Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony this Saturday, November 29, at 5:50 p.m. at 8th Street and Pennsylvania Ave SE, the Northeast quadrant of the Eastern Market Metro Plaza, her home community.
The tree lighting ceremony has been a District of Columbia tradition since 2007, and was established when members of the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District (BID) planted a tree at Eastern Market to honor the late George Didden III, former president of BID. The tree has been lit every holiday season by Didden's wife, Kathy Didden.
"The lighting of ‘Big George' is becoming a time-honored festivity for the Capitol Hill community," Norton said. "I am so pleased that Capitol Hill BID is continuing this neighborhood tradition of honoring George Didden with the tree lighting, a visual reminder for residents and visitors that Capitol Hill is a community of neighbors and residents."
