Norton to Speak at Investiture of D.C.'s New U.S. Attorney

May 24, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will speak at the investiture of Ronald Machen, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, whom she recommended to President Barack Obama. "Ronald Machen will bring the excellence to the office that Eric Holder set as the mark when he became the city's first African American U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. I believe Mr. Machen's wide-ranging experience in private practice and in the U.S. Attorney's Office fits perfectly with what our city and nation need today," Norton said.

Norton selected Machen from a number of highly qualified candidates recommended to her by her Federal Law Enforcement Nominating Commission, chaired by Pauline Schneider, a former chair of the D.C. Bar and a partner at the law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP. Machen is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School, and was a law clerk for Judge Damon J. Keith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He formerly served as an Assistant U. S. Attorney in the office he now leads. He left the Washington Office of the law firm of Wilmer Hale to take his new position as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
