Norton to Speak at March on Washington Film Festival, Tonight

September 23, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will introduce Dr. Joyce Ladner, who is among the honorees this evening at the 7th annual March on Washington Film Festival, which commemorates the anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The festival is held every year and serves as a national platform to celebrate the untold stories and heroes of the Civil Rights Movement. As organizers who helped coordinate the March on Washington, Ladner and Norton have a special fondness for the film festival.

"The March on Washington was the zenith of ten years of civil rights activism, beginning with the Montgomery Bus Boycott," Norton said. "It will be a special pleasure to introduce my friend and fellow civil rights worker Joyce Ladner at tonight's festival. Joyce personifies what the March on Washington wanted to achieve. I thank our film festival for commemorating Joyce and the March as we still strive to fulfil the goals of the Civil Rights Movement."
