Norton to Speak at NAACP Press Conference Opposing Trump Federal Court Nominee Thomas Farr, Tomorrow

February 27, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Judicial Nominations Working Group, will speak at a press conference hosted by the NAACP in opposition to President Trump's nomination of Thomas A. Farr to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina tomorrow, Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 10:45 a.m., at the United Methodist Building (100 Maryland Ave. NE). Members of the NAACP North Carolina State Conference will journey to the nation's capital to join the press conference before meeting with U.S. senators to oppose Farr's nomination. The press conference will be live-streamed here.

"Thomas Farr has spent his entire life working to disenfranchise African Americans," Norton said. "He is perhaps the worst example of the Trump administration's woefully unqualified nominees who have sought to undermine the rights of people of color, the poor, the disabled, and other vulnerable members of society. Farr's nomination must be defeated."

Thus far, out of Trump's 87 judicial nominees, only one has been African American. In September 2017, the CBC sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) strongly opposing Farr's nomination.
