Norton to Speak at Naming of D.C. Street for Brishell Jones, Tomorrow

January 18, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer remarks at the ceremony in honor of naming a District of Columbia street in Ward 8 as "Brishell Jones Way," tomorrow, Friday, January 19, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., on Danbury St. SW between Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SW and South Capitol St. SE. Brishell was 16 years old when she was shot and killed on March 30, 2010, in a mass shooting that took the lives of three other teenagers and wounded six others.

"Tomorrow we honor the memory of Brishell, who was taken from us in the prime of her childhood by the scourge of gun violence that every day hurts families in D.C. and across the United States," Norton said. "These honorary signs will be a beacon for me in the Congress as I try yet again to prevent Members of Congress from eliminating D.C.'s gun safety laws."
