Norton to Speak at Plaque Dedication Honoring Victims of 2009 Metro Crash
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton announced today that she will speak at the unveiling and dedication ceremony of a plaque dedicated to the nine victims of the June 22, 2009 Metro red line accident on Friday, June 22, 2012, near the crash site, at the Langley Bridge (New Hampshire Ave. near 1st St. and Oglepthorpe St. NE) at 11:00 a.m. Norton will join D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, National Transportation Safety Board Chair Deborah Hersman, family members of the victims, and first responders for the ceremony. "The Metro crash was a tragedy for the entire region. Our residents will never forget that seven of the nine killed in the crash were District residents: Mary Doolittle, Veronica DuBoze, Dennis Hawkins, LaVonda King, Ann Wherley, Maj. Gen. David Wherley, Jr. and Cameron Williams," Norton said. "The commemorative plaque we unveil on the third anniversary of the tragedy will ensure that all nine residents from our region will always be remembered."
