Norton to Speak at Rally Tomorrow to Ensure Recognition of D.C. Statehood at 2013 March on Washington

August 23, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Before the national March on Washington kicks off tomorrow morning, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), determined that this march will not ignore D.C., will speak at a D.C. statehood rally at 9:00 a.m. at the D.C. War Memorial.

"D.C. statehood was never mentioned at the March 50 years ago," said Norton. "This year, however, our rally, the first public event of the day, will ensure that D.C. statehood becomes an inevitable demand of the 2013 March on Washington. Washington is the mecca for the demands of many allied causes. We must assure that they take to heart the irony of being hosted by residents who are without even the most basic rights of citizenship, enjoyed by our visitors from throughout the country."

Among the other appearances Norton will make tomorrow to discuss the March are:

8:00 a.m., MSNBC, Up with Steve Kornacki

10:30 a.m., MSNBC, Melissa Harris-Perry Show

12:30 p.m., CNN Newsroom

6:30 p.m., NBC Nightly News
