September 10, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the re-opening of Dance Place, a performing arts facility in the Brookland neighborhood of Northeast, D.C., today at 4:30 p.m. at 3225 8th Street NE. The building space has been under construction since fall of last year. Norton, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony last year, said this new facility will "enrich the Brookland community with a beautiful and creative space to promote aspiring performance artists of all ages and backgrounds." The event will include a brief reception, remarks and mini performances in the theater, followed by photo opportunities outside the building.

Norton has been a longtime advocate of promoting healthy lifestyles through dance. She is a sponsor of a National Dance Day resolution, which marks the nationwide event, and in July she celebrated National Dance Day by participating in instructional dance performances at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage.
