Norton to Speak at Ribbon Cutting for First Multifamily Building at Sheridan Station

December 6,2011

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at the ribbon cutting for the first multifamily building at Sheridan Station in Ward 8, tomorrow, December 7, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. Norton was on hand in May 2010 for the groundbreaking of the project, which got its start in 2007 with a $20 million federal HOPE VI grant, and received an additional $5.8 million in stimulus money in 2009.

"Their project has moved fast to get residents into these brand new, green apartments," Norton said. "Sheridan Station is not only providing badly needed housing, it will generate energy savings for residents."

This first phase of Sheridan Station is a green, holistic redevelopment, with a five-story, loft-style apartment building with 104 units, two 4-unit manor buildings and two townhomes. The 114 units are for families at or below 60 percent of area median income, and 45 of the units will be public housing replacement units, with former Sheridan Terrace residents receiving top priority. When finished, Sheridan Station will be a 344 mixed-income community with 183 rental units and 161 units available for purchase. This project replaces Sheridan Terrace, a public housing community that was demolished in 1997.
