Norton to Speak at UPO’s 34th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast, Tomorrow
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer remarks at the 34th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast, hosted by the United Planning Organization (UPO), tomorrow, Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 8:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m., at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, 13th Floor). The MLK Memorial Breakfast annually celebrates the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and raises funds to provide college scholarships for deserving high school graduates in the District of Columbia.
“Dr. King led an important march for D.C. home rule in 1965 when our city was still struggling for a locally-elected government,” Norton said. “We can continue his legacy by fighting for our democratic rights and making D.C. the 51st state. There is no better place to find that inspiration than the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend.”
