October 10, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer remarks during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Georgetown-Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 1000 New Jersey Avenue, SE at 10:30 a.m. The Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research focuses on research to reduce cancer disparities among underserved and minority populations in the District of Columbia, including African Americans, Latinos, and Asian Americans.

"The Georgetown-Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research will help us focus on an issue I have discussed with them in the past, namely why cancer rates remain persistently high in the District. Similarly high rates are found in Maryland, and this center will help unravel one of the oldest public health puzzles facing our city," Norton said.
