Norton to Speak Out Against D.C. Abortion Rider at Press Conference with Members of Pro-Choice Caucus, Today

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at a press conference hosted by the Pro-Choice Caucus on the harmful impact of proposed anti-choice riders in this year's appropriations bills today, Thursday, July 20, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., in the House Radio/TV Gallery, Studio B (HVC-110). Norton will speak on the anti-home-rule rider included in the House Appropriations Committee-passed fiscal year 2018 District of Columbia Appropriations bill that prohibits D.C. from spending its local funds on abortion services for low-income women.

Earlier this year, the House passed a bill (H.R. 7) to permanently prohibit the D.C. government from spending its local funds on abortion services for low-income women, prohibit D.C. government employees from providing abortions, prohibit abortions in D.C. government facilities, and define the D.C. government as part of the federal government for purposes of abortion.
