Norton to Speak This Morning at Anacostia River and Union Station Events
May 2, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today will speak at two events involving her committee work. As officials and residents focus on a report to restore the Anacostia River at The Yards Park, 10 Water Street NE, with Mayor Vincent Gray and on the 40th Anniversary of Amtrak at Union Station, Norton will arrive at both events, which begin at 10:00 a.m., in time to deliver remarks.
The Congresswoman, the lead sponsor of the Anacostia Watershed Initiative, the first comprehensive cleanup plan for the Anacostia River, said she welcomes the new report particularly because she and the regional delegation are seeking funds to implement the Anacostia Restoration Plan, mandated by her bill, which rolled out last year.
Norton will also speak at Amtrak's 40th Anniversary ceremony and help kickoff a yearlong series of Amtrak events that will be held throughout the country. Norton's focus on Amtrak centers around local job creation at its hub and the high-speed rail planned in the northeast corridor of the country.
