Norton to Speak to New Two-Track Approach to Defend D.C.’s Laws During Upcoming Appropriations Process with Budget Autonomy in Effect
May 9, 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, and a coalition of national and local organizations will hold a press conference today, Monday, May 9, 2015, at 2:30 p.m., in 234 Cannon House Office Building, where Norton will discuss District of Columbia efforts that challenge Congress not only by defending the city’s laws from interference, but also, for the first time, putting Congress on the defensive. At the press conference, Norton will cite evidence that Republicans see the 2013 budget autonomy referendum and the D.C. Superior Court decision upholding the referendum as threats.
