Norton to Speak to Washington Teachers’ Union at African American Civil War Museum, Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at the William Simons Scholarships Renaming Ceremony hosted by the Washington Teachers' Union this Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., at the African American Civil War Museum. Simons was the first president of the Washington Teachers Union and taught Norton when she was in the 8th grade at Banneker Middle School.

"I had a rare relationship and friendship with Bill Simons," Norton said. "I will always remember Bill as my history teacher when I was a teenager, and later as a colleague and a supporter. It will be a special honor to speak at the Bill Simons scholarship ceremony."
