Norton to Take Special Order Time on House Floor on D.C. Statehood, This Afternoon
November 17, 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will take special order time on the House floor to discuss last week’s overwhelming vote by District of Columbia residents to approve a referendum that advises the D.C. Council to petition Congress for statehood, today, Thursday, November 17, 2016, at approximately 12:45 p.m.
“This election’s vote by D.C. residents sent a strong signal that they are through waiting for the Congress on statehood,” Norton said. “Residents were under no illusion about the tough challenges ahead, even if the presidential election results had been different. By building on the November 8 over-the-top vote, D.C. has plenty of momentum to kick off continuous local and national action.”
