Norton to Testify Before Subcommittee on Her Bill to Spur Economic Development in D.C.
WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will testify before the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands at a hearing at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, in 1334 Longworth House Office Building on her bill, HR 5494, to transfer to the District of Columbia six small parcels of land, scattered throughout the city, which are adjacent to Marie H. Reed Community Learning Center, the old Meyer Elementary School site, the Southwest Library site, and a small parcel of land at the intersection of North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue.
"Unlike my earlier land transfer bill that augmented D.C.'s holdings by hundreds of acres, this bill is far less controversial," said Norton. "The NPS has no use for these small parcels. However, the District will be able to use them to develop play fields, spur economic development, and improve livability in the District of Columbia."
