Norton to Thank We the People for Sensible Gun Laws for Three Years of Monday Demonstrations in Front of White House Demanding Gun Safety Reform

July 27, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will thank We the People For Sensible Gun Laws for their tireless activism at an event marking the group's three years of demonstrating for gun safety reform each Monday in front of the White House, today, Monday, July 27, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in front of the White House. We the People for Sensible Gun Laws is a group of citizens from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia who have gathered every Monday in front of the White House since the Aurora Colorado Theater shooting in July, 2012 to demand passage of gun laws that will prevent gun violence and mass shootings here and across the nation. At today's demonstration, activists will read the names of all victims of mass shootings since 1980.

"Citizens tend to respond after tragic shooting events; we the People for Sensible Gun Laws is a model of what is needed for consistent and tireless activism on gun safety reform," Norton said. "Congress must respond to the overwhelming majority of Americans who support passage of responsible gun safety laws, such as universal background checks and bans on assault weapons and high capacity magazines."
