Norton to Tour Children’s National to Highlight TrumpCare’s Deep and Cruel Cuts to Medicaid, Tomorrow

June 26, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will tour Children's National Medical Center with House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other Members of Congress, followed by a media availability, to highlight the Senate TrumpCare bill's deep and cruel cuts to Medicaid, tomorrow, Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at noon (Tour closed to press, media availability at 12:30 p.m.). Medicaid provides health insurance for 74,000 low-income children in in the District of Columbia, comprising 34.5 percent of D.C.'s Medicaid population.

"Medicaid provides life-saving health insurance to our most vulnerable citizens, and particularly ensures low-income children and children with disabilities have access to essential healthcare," Norton said. "The deep cuts to Medicaid in the Senate's version of TrumpCare would have a devastating impact on children's hospitals like Children's National Medical Center. If the Senate TrumpCare bill passes, millions of people in the D.C.-area and across the country will never receive healthcare because, for the first time, this bill would limit Medicaid, regardless of the number in need, a long-held goal of Republicans. Who would pay the price for this cruel policy? Children and millions of other Americans who rely on Medicaid. I look forward to visiting our kids at Children's National and their families and meeting with the hard-working and dedicated staff who devote their careers to saving lives."
