WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will welcome District of Columbia seniors to the new U.S. Capitol Visitors Center (CVC) for a Seniors Day titled, "A New Day for Seniors with a New Administration and a New Congress," Thursday, May 21, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.. Seniors will receive useful information about federal benefits available to them, tour the CVC facility, including its Emancipation Hall, named in honor of the slaves and freed blacks who helped build the U.S. Capitol, and see the recently unveiled Sojourner Truth bust there.
The seniors will watch a film about the U.S. Capitol, and have lunch in the CVC cafeteria. They will also be treated to an exercise presentation with fitness and health tips, and enjoy live Doo Wop by Mary House and the Band.
"Seniors are amongst our best informed and most engaged citizens," Norton said. "We will help them separate the wheat from the chaff by bringing them information concerning changes to federal programs in the works for seniors."
Charles Russo, executive director, United Health Group, will make a special presentation. "Through our subsidiary Secure Horizons, we are committed to helping seniors live healthier lives," Russo said. "We applaud Congresswoman Norton for utilizing her Senior Annual Legislative Day to provide constituents with information on healthcare and other topics that affect their quality of life. We are pleased to join other organizations in supporting this outreach effort."
