Norton to Welcome Disadvantaged Kids to Capitol Hill Tuesday for Annual Christmas Party

December 17, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Covenant House, in conjunction with Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), will welcome more than 200 disadvantaged District children to their 22nd annual "D.C. Children's Christmas Party on the Hill" tomorrow, Tuesday, December 18, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in 345 Cannon House Office Building, held every year since Norton has served in Congress. The D.C. Christmas Party on the Hill will give the children gifts and lunch as well as a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, and entertainment from John "Kinderman" Taylor, a three-time Emmy-award-winning entertainer who sings, tells stories, dances, and uses puppets in a show that combines education and entertainment.

"Welcoming these children to Capitol Hill during the holiday season and presenting them with toys, and necessities like scarves and gloves, is always a highlight of our year." Norton said. "This year, we will help to bring joy as well as comfort to, our youth and children, who, as Christmas approaches, have seen their peers mercilessly gunned down in Newton, Connecticut. On top of television coverage of being kids shot in school, times continue to be tough for many D.C. kids and families, and I can only hope that this party will encourage children and adults alike that better times are coming."

Norton also noted that she is particularly grateful to the many businesses, organizations, and individuals who so generously made donations or volunteered their time to help make this annual party a success.
