Norton to Welcome Former U.S. Treasurer Rosa Rios to Roosevelt STAY High School
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer remarks tomorrow and welcome the former Treasurer of the United States, Rosa "Rosie" Gumataotao Rios, to Roosevelt STAY High School this Tuesday, September 17th, at 10:30 a.m. as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Rios was the longest serving Senate-confirmed Treasury official when she left the Obama administration and played an important role helping President Obama stabilize the U.S. economy after the 2008 financial crisis.
"As this administration continues to lash out at immigrants from around the world, I will be delighted to help highlight the benefits of our country's cultural diversity, especially our Hispanic immigrants," Norton said. "Kicking off National Hispanic Heritage Month will allow us to showcase why the District is a proud sanctuary city and why Congress must pass the DREAM Act and protect vulnerable immigrant children. It will be important for students and our other residents to hear the experiences and successes of Hispanic Americans who have reached the top of their field – and Rosa Rios perfectly personifies them. I look forward to welcoming the former Treasurer to Roosevelt."
