Norton Town Meeting with National Park Service and D.C. Residents to Promote Candid Conversation and Increased Contact

Washington, DC—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's (D-DC) Parks Town Meeting with the National Park Service (NPS), which controls most of D.C.'s neighborhood parks and the National Mall, will give D.C. residents their first opportunity to speak directly with the NPS National Capital Region Director, the National Capital Region Associate Regional Director, and the Superintendents of the National Mall, Rock Creek Park, and National Capital Parks-East.

"Whether the issue is permitting Capital Bikeshare in parks, using a neighborhood park for a community event, or simply strolling in our parks, thousands of D.C. residents make frequent use of our parks in this city of many parks," Norton said. "However, because the parks are owned by the federal government, residents have not always found it easy to navigate the system or get quick and responsive replies. NPS does pay a lot of attention to our parks. What is needed is more frequent contact, and I intend to try to facilitate this contact through periodic meetings in the neighborhoods. I hope that Saturday's citywide town meeting starts us off on a discussion that proves beneficial to all concerned."

WHO: The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, NPS National Capital Region Director Steve Whitesell, NPS National Capital Region Associate Regional Director Peter May, NPS Superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks Bob Vogel, NPS Superintendent of National Capital Parks-East Alex Romero, NPS Superintendent of Rock Creek Park Tara Morrison, and D.C. residents
