Norton, Van Hollen to Introduce Resolution Congratulating Washington Mystics on Historic WNBA Title

October 11, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) today announced they will introduce a congressional resolution congratulating the Washington Mystics for winning the 2019 WNBA Finals. The win marks the first championship for the Mystics after competing deep into the playoffs in 2017 and 2018. Norton and Van Hollen released the following statement.

"The Washington Mystics' historic WNBA championship deserves the full congratulations of the U.S. House and Senate. For over 20 years, the Mystics have battled adversity and built one of the top-tier WNBA teams in the nation. As we celebrate this milestone, we must also continue to shine a light on the need for pay-parity for female athletes and work together to that end.

"To all the coaches, players, trainers, and fans, we look forward to commemorating this victory both with Congress' recognition and at the parade in our nation's capital. Go Mystics!"
