Norton Wants Meeting with CSX Officials Following Train Derailment
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The office Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will reach out to CSX officials for a meeting this week after a CSX freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed 14 cars today near the Rhode Island Ave. Metro Station.
“I am grateful to our D.C. Fire and EMS first responders for working so quickly contain the chemical leak from the derailed CSX freight train today,” Norton said. “The trains must run through our densely populated neighborhoods, so the spilling of hazardous materials is always a serious concern. I will be seeking information from CSX officials this week not only about how this crash occurred, but how to ensure such derailments will be prevented in the future. I will also be in touch with Federal Railroad Administration and National Transportation Safety Board officials tomorrow to receive an update on the derailment.”
