Norton Welcomes Bowser as Guest for President’s State of the Union Address
January 20, 2015
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that newly elected District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser will be her guest for tonight's State of the Union address.
"I am pleased to welcome Mayor Bowser to the Capitol tonight for President Obama's State of the Union address," Norton said. "As the 114th Congress begins, we want to demonstrate that there should be a strong partnership, not a contentious relationship, between local D.C. elected officials and members of Congress."
In her first public appearance as mayor in the Congress, on January 4, Bowser joined Norton at a press conference to call on the House Republican majority to restore the District's vote on the House floor in the Committee of the Whole.
