Norton Wins Ranking Member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee Post, and Retains her Senior Position on the Economic Development Subcommittee
WASHINGTON, DC – The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that today the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Democrats voted unanimously for Norton to become the Ranking Member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee, and that she will continue her service as a senior member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management.
"I am grateful to have the confidence of my Transportation and Infrastructure Committee colleagues to lead the Highways and Transit Subcommittee at a time when we must write a new surface transportation bill," said Norton. "I am also excited about continuing to put to good use my long experience on the Economic Development Subcommittee. I have already had a good conversation with Representative André Carson (D-IN), a close friend and an able member of Congress, who will be Ranking Member of the Economic Development Subcommittee."
After meeting with her Subcommittee members and the leadership of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the D.C. Department of Transportation, Norton will hold a series of roundtables with stakeholders to prepare for the upcoming surface transportation authorization bill.
