Norton Working with Cardin and Fenty on Hold on School Bill
May 10, 2007

Washington, DC--Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that she has had a good and amicable conversation with Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and with Mayor Adrian Fenty and communications among the three of them is continuing. Congresswoman Norton and Senator Cardin are good friends, and the Congresswoman and the Senator have sat in hearings on Oak Hill together when he was in the House. The Congresswoman said that the Senator is no newcomer to this issue and has worked diligently to find a mutually satisfactory solution at Oak Hill over the years. Sen. Cardin has always been a good friend of the city, Norton said, and based on the way he has approached Oak Hill in the past, and the good faith and problem-solving approach he brings to issues, she is convinced that a satisfactory solution can be found that will not needlessly hold up a bill that must be passed quickly if the new Fenty administration is to successfully assume leadership of the District of Columbia Public Schools in time for the opening of school.
