Norton's 20th Annual Christmas Party for Disadvantaged D.C. Kids Tomorrow

December 20, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), in conjunction with Covenant House, will welcome Santa, Mrs. Claus, and more than 250 disadvantaged D.C. children to her 20th annual "D.C. Children's Christmas Party on the Hill" tomorrow, Tuesday, December 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in 345 Cannon House Office Building. The children will be provided with food and gifts, while being entertained by D.C. United's mascot, dancers from the Washington Ballet, and clowns, as well as by Santa, Mrs. Claus, and their elves.

"We hold this party annually, but we are particularly mindful that families in the District are experiencing unusually hard times," said Norton. "We hope that by providing these children with some holiday fun and with toys, hats, gloves, scarves and backpacks full of school supplies we will encourage them to believe that things will get better for them."

Congresswoman Norton said that she particularly appreciated the generosity of the many organizations, businesses and individuals who made donations to make the party a success. These organizations include: Amtrak, AFL-CIO, Coca-Cola, D.C. United, Fort Lincoln New Town Corp., GEICO, Giant, LEAP Foundation, Safeway, and Washington Gas. The Congresswoman also praised the many employees and volunteers who will help to ensure the party is a success.
