Norton's Bill Transferring to DC Kingman and Heritage Islands Passes Senate
September 28, 2010
WASHINGTON, DC -- The Kingman and Heritage Islands Act, introduced by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), passed the Senate yesterday under unanimous consent. The bill would make the man-made islands, located near RFK Stadium on the Anacostia River, a center for environmental education and recreation in the District, and fulfills a major goal of Norton's to renew the Anacostia River, which surrounds the islands.
"Preserving Kingman and Heritage Islands is in line with our priority to clean up the Anacostia River to make it suitable for educational, recreational, and maritime activities," Norton said. "These islands will attract residents and tourists alike, and engage them in preserving and restoring our natural resources."
The Kingman and Heritage Islands bill passed the House in October 2009.
