Norton's Job Fair Will Provide Internet Access for Job Seekers

June 8, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host her Annual Job Fair on Tuesday, June 8, 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center - Hall C, 801 Mt. Vernon Avenue NW for District residents only. The number of recruiters that will be attendance with confirmed job openings has grown to 106 employers. Among the employers are Aflac, Catholic University, CBS Radio, D.C. Department of Human Resources, FBI, FedEx Ground, Pepco, RCN, U.S. Department of State, and Washington Hospital Center.

A new addition to the fair this year is a mobile internet van provided by the D.C. Department of Employment Services. The van is equipped with several computer stations to allow attendees to search and apply for jobs in real time. District residents will not only have the opportunity to apply for jobs, but also to interview on the spot with recruiters from a variety of industries.

"Allowing fair goers to get online and target the companies and positions that most interest them before or after speaking with recruiters will prove beneficial in their job search," said Congresswoman Norton. "The mobile internet van is also a valuable tool for those who may not have internet access at home but are still actively seeking employment. The job fair will truly be a one-stop shop."

Tuesday's job fair will also offer a workshop on resume writing, interviewing skills, and the revised federal employment application, as well as a "Dress for Success" fashion show to help District residents better prepare for employment opportunities. The workshop and fashion show will run from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Participants are asked to wear professional attire, bring copies of their resumes, and bring proof of D.C. residency (D.C. photo ID card, utility bill, or the like). A complete list of participating companies and agencies will be provided onsite. The mobile internet van will be located inside the Convention Center, directly behind the exhibitors' booths.
