WASHINGTON, DC -- The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that the Senate has confirmed Edwin Donovan Sloane for U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia, as recommended to the President by the Congresswoman. "Edwin Sloane has earned this appointment in his role as the Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia," Norton said. "He won high praises from judges and court personnel alike as a collegial problem solver who resolved the issues he inherited in the office. It is a special pleasure to congratulate Mr. Sloane on this promotion from within, rewarding his hard work with the position he deserves."
President Obama gave Norton senatorial courtesy for important federal law enforcement posts here. Sloane and others who applied for the position were interviewed and vetted by the Congresswoman's 17-member Federal Law Enforcement Commission, which Norton is made up of D.C. residents from every Ward and chaired by Pauline Schneider. Norton established the Commission to investigate candidates and makes recommendations from whom the Congresswoman then selects her final choices to submit to the President after her interviews and further investigations.
