Norton's Revenge on Colbert Gets the City's Attention as the Congresswoman Prepares to Attend Rally on Saturday

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said that the Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert rally to be held on Saturday has already spotlighted D.C.'s quest for the vote. Yesterday, a local restaurant, The Passenger, 1021 7th Street NW, announced a new drink entitled Eleanor's Revenge, a reference to the popular feud between Norton and Colbert featured in several episodes of The Colbert Report. The restaurant has invited Colbert to pay a visit following the rally. Norton plans to attend the rally and to stop by The Passenger after the rally.
"Passenger's new drink, Eleanor's Revenge, is really D.C.'s revenge, featuring a strong drink to remind Colbert of the bitter pills we swallow as long as D.C. is denied the vote in Congress," said Norton. "Kudos to The Passenger for its creative idea of a drink that I am sure will be made with a kick equal to the kick I try to give Colbert on the air and that he always succeeds in giving me." Norton hopes that other businesses and residents will follow The Passenger by finding their own special ways to remind Colbert that he is in voting rights territory when he comes to D.C.
Norton also said that she appreciated Jon Stewart for taking up one of the Congresswoman's favorite issues by donating the proceeds of the rally to the Trust for the National Mall. Norton has worked closely with the Trust, and particularly Chairman John Akridge, which is raising private funds to supplement government spending for rehabilitation of the National Mall.
Norton plans to attend the rally on Saturday along with DC Vote supporters who are meeting at 6th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW at 11:00 a.m. "We are doing more than showing the flag for D.C. We will be demanding the vote, right in front of the man who has popularized ridiculing me, and by proxy, District residents for not having voting rights."
To date the rally has raised more than $117,000 for the Trust for the National Mall.
